The background to the project is that:

• Networks contain ageing plant
• Changing loads impacts the requirements of plans and networks
• Generation in terms of renewable and distributed sources place new demands on the networks
• The network operators find themselves with a reduced skills base
• There is a need to deliver electricity at minimum cost

The project deliverables may be summarised as:

• a suite of intelligent diagnostic tools for plant
• integrated network planning and asset management
• reduced environmental impact plant
• models and recommendations for network operation and management
